This workshop will focus on the Old Summer Palace history, archaeology architecture and sustainable development. This is part of a research project to investigate the history of the historic site, its socio-cultural narratives, as well as using smart digital technologies to survey, record and virtually reconstruct the Old Summer Palace onto virtual platforms that engage wider audience and user groups with their collections.
The workshop is designed to bring together international researchers and local experts to develop shared knowledge, understanding and coherent plan for the studying, recording and preservation of the Old Summer Palace, and its surrounding. We aim to present our individual and collective expertise, novel projects, techniques and methodologies, whilst learn the deep histories of the site, mapping its historic narratives and current site conditions. This workshop will debate the future of user engagement with the Old Summer Palace histories, collections and art galleries in the online, more mobile society and user-groups. It will also aim to give voice and space to the concerns, obstacles, issues and changing patterns and demands of different user groups.
本次研讨会将重点关注圆明园的历史、考古建筑和可持续发展。 这是圆明园研究项目的一部分，旨在调查历史遗址的历史、社会文化叙事，以及使用智能数字技术来调查、记录圆明园并将其虚拟重建到网络平台上，以吸引更多的观众和用户群体。
该研讨会将聚集各国学者和当地专家，为圆明园及其周边地区的研究、记录和保护达成共识并制定连贯的计划。我们旨在展示我们的个人和集体擅长的，新颖的项目，技术和方法，同时学习圆明园的深厚历史，绘制其历史叙述和当前的场地条件。本次研讨会并将讨论如何使用户与圆明园历史、收藏品和艺术画廊的的未来线上互动移动性更强更包容，另外，还旨在为不同用户群体的忧虑、阻力、问题以及不断变化的模式和需求提供发言权和发展空间。

A joint online workshop between the Centre of Architecture, Urbanism, and Global Heritage (CAUGH) in Nottingham Trent University and the School of Art and Design in Beijing Institute of Technology was organised in November 2020 through Microsoft Teams. Multiple presentations in relation to the Old Summer Palace and advanced digitalisation technologies used in developing virtual experiences of heritage sites were included in the workshop. We shared our experience and knowledge, and further established the aims and objectives of the Old Summer Palace project. The workshop supports the future management of the site by designing a novel methodology for digital modelling and virtual heritage platforms that engage with local community and user groups.

During this meeting, we established the partnership with Beijing Institute of Technology, as well as the aims and objectives of the Old Summer Palace project. The project is designed to focus on using smart digital technologies to survey, record and virtually reconstruct the Old Summer Palace onto virtual platforms that engage wider audience and user groups.
